Kollu Rasam Recipe | Horse gram Recipes | Kulthi Recipes - Instructions:
1. Kollu/Horse gram is a hard gram. So, it is good to soak it overnight with enough water. Believe me, I never soak it when I use it either for making any dish or to consume directly. I just cook it in a pressure cooker and use it. It may be because of the kind of kollu I am buying. I am not sure. If you are planning to prepare kollu rasam, it is good to soak it overnight.
2. Pressure cook it with required water and cook for 5 whistles. Meanwhile, soak tamarind in little water and extract the juice.
3. Drain the water from the cooked kollu and keep the water for later use. Allow the kollu to cool down.
4. Grind kollu and other 'To grind' items in a mixie to a coarse paste and keep it aside. No need to add water.
5. Heat oil in a pan and temper the items listed under 'To Temper'. Add ground coarse paste and tamarind extract in the pan. Add salt and turmeric powder. Add the water used for boiling kollu in the pressure pan. Add additional water if required. Switch off the stove once the rasam starts boiling.
6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
1. If you have rasam powder, you can just grind kollu and tomato. Add rasam powder when you boil in the pan.
